The Linux and UNIX Essentials Certification Exam is designed with one goal in mind: to help you gain knowledge of Linux and UNIX commands and concepts that constitute about 80% of every UNIX user’s repertoire. It is the most popular of the UNIX Academy exams, and it teaches (and tests) subjects that are absolutely essential to every Linux/UNIX-related task. This certification establishes a groundwork from which you can continue to develop your skills in any direction you choose. The training for this exam is available as the first part of the “Learn Linux/UNIX” and “Learn Linux Complete” sets.
This test requires a score of 80% and can be taken up to three times during a 30-day period. The objective of the test is to help you become familiar with the general UNIX environment, learn the most widely used commands, develop good skills for simple file and process operations, process some text, do basic editing, learn archiving and resource navigation tools.
The intention of this test, as with all UNIX Academy exams, is to teach and direct you toward a better understanding of Linux/UNIX systems.
If you are an experienced Linux/UNIX user, passing this test should take little time and effort. If you are a beginner, however, you will be required to complete some actual work on a Linux or UNIX machine. You must learn concepts and commands to pass the test. After passing the test, you may claim that you got your feet wet in Linux/UNIX. The Certificate will be mailed to you within ten business days.
This exam is designed to be a first step on your certification path, and it capitalizes on knowledge acquired from the first “Essential” part of the “Learn Linux” DVD training sets.
The UNIX Academy Certification Exam is an online software product and requires a computer with an Internet connection. The Certification Exam login and account information will be sent to you by email within two business days. The 30-day period allowed for completion of the exam starts when you first log in.
